LEARN JAPANESE, LESSON 12 - EATING, DRINKING & FOOD RELATED PHRASES(1)

Eating and drinking are vital parts of socializing in Japan.

With relations at work often quite hierarchical and stiff,

going out and relaxing becomes very important to relieve stress and tension.

The Japanese enjoy the liveliness of alcohol and food-fueled conversation.

There are many special occasions when the Japanese will eat out or have a big meal in.

Apart from birthdays, family occasions like after graduations

and work-centered events like hanami

(flower viewing or drinking under cherry blossom trees)

are ideal times to get together over some food and drink.
